Manipur ambush: Assam CM takes responsibility to look after martyr Suman Swargiary's son

Assam CM offered Rs 50 lakh as ex gratia to Suman Swargiary"s family, and also vowed to look after the martyr"s three-year-old son, Barad Swargiary.

Baksa (Assam), Nov 18: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a visit to the house of Assam Rifle martyr Suman Swargiary in the Thaikarakuchi village of Baksa district. Meeting Suman Swargiary's wife Jury Swargiary, the Assam CM paid his condolence. He also offered Rs 50 lakh as ex gratia to Suman Swargiary's family, and also vowed to look after the martyr's three-year-old son, Barad Swargiary.

Suman Swargiary was one of the six who lost their lives in the ambush which took place in Manipur on November 13. He said, "It's our collective responsibility to stand by those who sacrificed their lives while protecting our nation. I vow to look after Barad Swargiary, the son of martyr Suman Swargiary."
Further, he said, "As I spent some time with the family and tried to learn about their situation, I assured them of all possible assistance in the future." He announced that a road will be constructed in his village and named after him.

The last rites of Rifleman Suman Swargiary were performed at his native village in the Baksa district of Assam on November 15. Swargiary lost his life in an ambush in Manipur on November 13. His mortal remains were brought to Guwahati earlier that day. Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and other officials of the government paid tributes to the late Assam Rifles soldier at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati.

“Rich and final tributes to the braveheart Suman Swargiary. The martyred Assam Rifles soldier will always be remembered for his great sacrifice at the call of duty. Heartfelt condolences to the undaunted Jawan’s family. May they find the strength to deal with the loss. Prayers," Mahanta said in a tweet.
Colonel Viplav Tripathi, the Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles and five soldiers of the unit were killed on Saturday when the convoy they were travelling in was ambushed by militants in Manipur. People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. The officer's wife and child also lost their lives in the incident.
