Kochi, Dec 13: Responding to the plea seeking removal of  PM Narendra Modi’s photograph from Covid vaccine certificates, the Kerala HC asked the petitioner, who works at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Leadership, what is wrong with PM’s image on vaccine certificates if the university can have the name of Jawaharlal Nehru?

Countering him, HC also asked him why he did not display the same zeal in getting his institution’s name changed.

While hearing the plea, Justice PV Kunhikrishnan noted that the petitioner is working with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Leadership, and asked him, "Why did he not ask the university to take down Nehru's name as well?" He also questioned how the use of PM Modi’s photo on vaccine certificates differs from naming a university after former PM Nehru.

The court said, "You work at an institute named after a Prime Minister. Why don't you ask the university to take that down as well?"

Moreover, when the petitioner, Peter Myalparambhil, tried to point out that the certificates issued by other countries do not have their PM’s photograph, the HC countered him and hilariously said they don't because they are not proud of their Prime Minister like Indians.

Then Justice PV Kunhikrishnan then asked him why he seemed to be ashamed of the Prime Minister? The judge asked, "Why are you ashamed of your PM? 100 crore people don’t seem to have an issue with this so why do you? I am just trying to understand".

HC also raised the question of the credibility of the plea saying, " He is our Prime Minister, not the Prime Minister of any other country. He came to power through our mandate. Merely because you have political differences, you cannot challenge this. "

" You may have political differences. But, I can’t understand what is the problem with Prime Minister’s photo in the certificate?" the court asked the petitioner.
