Lucknow, Dec 20: We are celebrating the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” to remember the glorious past of the country and to realize the concept of inclusive development with our priority to make youth and farmers ‘Atmanirbhar’. This is not possible without cooperation of all. These views were expressed by former Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh while addressing the valedictory session of the three-day 7th National Conclave of Sahkar Bharati here on Sunday.

Singh further said that there is a lot of scope to work in cooperative sector and the government has underlined its commitment by creating the separate cooperative ministry at the Union Cabinet level. Cooperative movement is not a new thing for India; it is in our very nature, Singh said.

He said that our villages had formed the traditional base for cooperative. Sahkar Bharati will have to take initiative to set up self-reliant and sustainable villages once again. Cooperative has become the most sought after necessity of the present era, he said adding that cooperative and antyodaya has become complementary to each other.

Antyodaya is aimed at bringing smile on the face of the last man standing in the last social hierarchy and Sahkar Bharati has the power to accomplish this mission, Singh said.

The former Union Minister further said that in 1859 Antyodaya Sahkar Samiti was constituted in Gujarat’s Vadadora and following the farmers’ agitation the congress government then had framed the Societies Registration Act. Today cooperative movement has assumed massive dimension like a huge banyan tree the seeds of which were sown in 1904 farmers’ agitation.

Singh said that there are over 8 lakh cooperative societies in India at present with 40 crore members and 97% of them come from rural sector. The cooperative sector contributes 17% of the farm production. He said that the Narendra Modi government has made great contribution to enrich cooperative sector.

With cooperative working in the rural areas the dream of ‘Gramodaya’ and ‘Antyodaya’ can be realized. The Centre has made loan distribution system through NABARD easy and simplified for the cooperative committees. Emphasis is being laid on training of the cooperative committees and the Modi government has made extensive expansion of the training programs, he added.

The former Union Minister underlined the need for value-based leadership in cooperative sector and exuded confidence that Sahkar Bharati alone can accomplish this. We have to make villages, poor, farmers and youth rich. All the challenges confronting the country today can be successfully dealt with strengthening the cooperative sector, he said. The modi government’s mission of “Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas, Sab ka Vishws, Sab ka Prayas’ can be taken to its logical success through cooperative only, he added.

Sahkar Bharati National President Dinanath Thakur, General Secretary Dr. Uday Joshi and Organizing Secretary Sanjay Pachpor thanked the workers of Uttar Pradesh for successful organization and arrangements of the convention.

Dr. Narendra Upadhyay of Eta in UP and Dr. Pravin Singh Jadaun of Urai of Kanpur-Bundelkhand area were unanimously elected President and Secretary of Sahkar Bharati UP state unit at the elections conducted at the end of valedictory session. National General Secretary Dr. Uday Joshi was the Election Officer.
