New Delhi, December 28: Former cricketer Dinesh Mongia on Tuesday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to kickstart his political career. Mongia, 44, took the primary membership of the ruling party at the Centre at a function in Delhi.
During the event, the ex-cricketer, who played international cricket for India, said, “I want to serve the people of Punjab by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Today, there is no other party that can work better than the BJP for the development of the country.”
This former batsman who played limited over internationals for India hails from Punjab, where Assembly polls are set to be held early next year. The BJP will contest the assembly polls in Punjab in alliance with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa's SAD (Sanyukt). BJP is likely to keep a major share of seats in the alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh’s party and will contest on 70-80 seats.
