Heritage sites become more friendly to Specially abled visitors

New Delhi, Feb 10: The Ministry of Culture has promised to avail the necessary facilities for the ease of specially abled people or Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) who choose to visit Heritage sites for their love and fascination towards the glorious history of the country. The ministry has shared a list of facilities that will be additionally availed at the centrally administered heritage site, including the World Heritage Sites.

According to the recent release of the Ministry of Culture headed by Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, the basic public amenities like drinking water, toilets, signages are available at most of the Centrally Protected Monuments, including the World Heritage Sites. Further in consideration of the PwDs, the ministry has decided to provide wheelchairs, ramps, Braille cultural notice boards and disabled friendly public amenities, in order to make the sites accessible to the persons with disabilities.
 
 
The Central Govt will be upgrading the existing infrastructure at museums and art galleries under the administrative control of the Ministry of Culture, in order to make them adaptable to meet the needs of Persons with Disabilities. The steps that the govt is to take for the purpose include ramps available for easy access to the museums. Appropriate action for retro-fitting has already been taken up where such facilities were not available.
 
 
Further, Lift to be provided in museums, wherever feasible. As per the plan, Tactile Path, Braille signages, toilets for differently-abled persons are obliged to be developed in most of museums and galleries, wherever they have not already been developed. For the ease of blind visitors, some of museums and galleries have already developed exhibitions with Braille labels and tactile path. Besides the museums are to provide wheelchairs as well.
