Mumbai, March 01: After getting failed to appear in court, the Andheri metropolitan magistrate court has issued a nonbailable warrant against actress Kangana Ranaut. The court has issued a warrant in a defamation case filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Earlier the court has asked her to appear in court on March 1. The court posted the matter for further hearing on March 22, 2021. Akhtar had moved the Magistrate court against Ranaut claiming that her statements amounted to the offense of criminal defamation under Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
Akhtar has filed a case against Ranaut for allegedly making a baseless and false statement to intentionally damaged the image of the lyrist. In the case, Akhtar had alleged that Ranaut had made defamatory statements on national and international television, “in what appears to be a clear campaign to malign and tarnish the reputation of the complainant (Akhtar) in the eyes of the general public”.
According to the reports, Akhtar had claimed that Kangana had dragged his name while referring to a coterie existing in Bollywood in Tv interviews. Akhtar also added that the Kangana had falsely claimed that Akhtar threatened her to keep silent about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan.
The court in December 2020 had directed the Juhu police here to conduct an inquiry into the complaint of defamation filed by Akhtar against Ranaut before the court in November last year.
