Corona 2.0: Over 35K new cases added in one single day

New Delhi, Mar 18: The second wave of Coronavirus is here again as 35,871 new cases were reported from various states of the country even as the Prime Minister advised all the Chief Ministers to take utmost care to arrest the spread of the virus into the rural areas. This was the highest figure reported n the past 100 days, according to the union health ministry sources.

With the rise in number of covid-19 patients for the eighth consecutive day, the total number of active coronavirus cases has reached 2,52,364. The recovery rate registered a downward trend sliding to 96.41 percent.

The death toll is also on the rise with 172 new death cases being reported. The total number of fatal case during the covid-19 pandemic has reached 1,59,216 so far.

Maharashtra among all the states has topped in number of infections and fatalities as well. The state reported 84 fatalities of the total of 172 followed by 35 in Punjab and 13 in Kerala.

According to the health ministry data, so far 1,59,216 deaths were reported in the country which included 53,080 from Maharashtra alone. Besides, 12,564 from Tamil Nadu, 12,407 from Karnataka, 10,948 from Delhi, 10,298 from West Bengal, 8,751 from UP and 7,186 death cases were reported.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 23,03,13,163 samples had been tested up to March 17 with 10,63,379 being tested on Wednesday.
