Arunachal Pradesh CM inaugurates state's first formal indigenous knowledge system school

Itanagar, March 22; With an aim to develop the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has inaugurated the state’s first formal indigenous language and knowledge system school 'Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko' in East Kameng district. Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko is a traditional institution of the Nyishi community that aims at expanding and securing indigenous traditions, culture and language.
 
According to the Chief Minister, the school will help to promote and preserve the culture, tradition, and language of the state. Prema Khandu further applauded Charitable Trust the initiative and express his gratitude towards Pai Dawe for donating the land for the Gurukul type initiative.

According to the ministry, the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya group has taken up the responsibility to impart formal education to the students of the Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko. The Minister said that Rs 3 crore has been earmarked for the development and upkeep of the school.
 
 
 
Khandu further said that his government has established the Department of Indigenous Affairs to preserve the indigenous culture of the state. He added that people of other states have praised him for this initiative.

He also praised the indigenous leader for suggesting ways to the department for preserving the culture and language of the state. "Being a Monpa, I follow Buddhism. My culture is safe as it is institutionalised. We learn and earn degrees in Buddhism. Therefore, we need to establish institutes that teach our kids their respective indigenous culture, heritage, language, way of living and take pride in it," Khandu said. While underlining the culture the Chief Minister also emphasised the need for modern education saying, "modern education cannot be ignored and should go hand-in-hand."
