Mumbai, March 23: Showing the world of the film industry why she got the National award for the 4th time, Bollywood superstar Kangana Ranaut hit the industry with another power-packed performance. On the occasion of the actor’s 34th birthday, the makers of Thalaivi released the trailer of the much-anticipated biopic of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The trailer shows a glimpse of the journey of Jayalalithaa as a ‘superstar heroine’ to become Tamil Nadu’s beloved ‘Thalaivi’. The trailer throws the light on the events that shaped her journey. It shows a story we all know, but the life story we don’t know. The trailer opens up the voice-over of Arvind Swamy, who is portraying the role of the MGR. The trailer showcases Jyalalithaa’s on-screen and off-screen relationship with MG Ramachandran (MGR). It also shows how he guided Jayalalithaa at every point and how he eases her into politics.
It also showcases Jyalalithaa’s maiden speech at the Rajya Sabha which was widely hailed for its clarity of diction and impressive prose.
The trailer shows a major turning point in Jayalalithaa's life when DMK Members attacked her tried to humiliate her by disrobing her and pulling her hair. In the movie, the director has compared that incident with Draupadi’s humiliation. In the trailer, she says that just like Draupadi’s humiliation caused the downfall of the Kuru clan, she will defeat her political opponents and claim victory because Mahabharata the epic has another name, “Jaya”.
The trailer ends with the line,“If you see me as your mother, I will keep you in my heart."
