Last year in October, Nikita Tomar was a B Com student. She was shot dead from point black range by Tauseef in full public view outside the Aggarwal college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The whole incident was caught on CCTV camera, following which police arrested two main accuse. The CCTV footage became an important part of the evidence presented by the police in the case. Following the incident, the special investigation team (SIT) took over the case and filed a 700-page charge sheet on November 6.

According to the police, Touseef was a long-time stalker of the girl and had even kidnapped her in 2018 after she rejected his proposal to convert to Islam and marry him. During the investigation, he also revealed that he shot Nikita as she was about to get married to someone else. According to the police, Touseef was inspired by the Mirzapur series and he killed her for revenge.
Following the sensational murder, the case was fast-tracked in November ensuring that it is heard by the court on a day-to-day basis. The move came after the Faridabad Police Commissioner has written a letter to the district court, requesting that the case is sensitive and hence it should be tried in the fast-track court.
