Every year, the devotees of Machindranath take a religious journey called Magh Purnima Srimalang Yatra till Malang Garh Fort to pay their respects to Machindranath. However, due to an outbreak of the coronavirus, this year’s trip was cancelled. But at the insistence of Shiv Sena, according to Hindu traditions, Hindus were allowed to perform all religious rituals in the temple of Machindranath. As per government rules, annual bath, palanquin, gandamala, naivedya, maha aarti, were allowed to attend 50 devotees including government officials and other dignitaries.

However, the fundamentalists did not like this and planned to interrupt Aarti.  Five minutes after the aarti began, a violent mob of 50-60 Muslim fundamentalists entered the ancient temple of Machindranath atop the Malang Garh fort to disrupt the aarti being performed by Hindu devotees. This video has now gone viral on social media.
