From the day one of declaration of state assembly elections in West Bengal, all were of the opinion that the BJP might get more seats by Didi will retain the power. However, as the elections approached, Didi started committing blunders one after another and today the TMC supporters even are suspecting a shocking defeat for Didi and her TMC party.

Oil and weak burn but credit goes to the lamp Suvendu-

Mamta equation is like the oil and the wick in an earthen lamp. The savage anti—Left fight of Didi was actually raised by Suvendu with his ground support. Didi reaped its fruits singlehandedly and she became the chief minister. Suvendu created a huge ground support for Didi in this area.

Bengal Elections 2021_1&n

When her trusted ‘Amit Shah’ Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP, the furious Didi in an emotional outburst announced to contest election from Nandigram. The Adhikari family's writing runs large in this area. In addition to this the 13-year-old Left Front Government registered some FIRs against them which Didi did not drop in her full two-term government. And now she entered the poll arena suddenly inviting the people’s anger. Still there was a possibility of her victory but …

She made false allegations about BJP attacking her here in Nandigram and now she is facing the music all over the state. People of Nandigram are agitated due to these false allegations leveled by her. To top it all her open threats “let Central forces go, I will see you” from the election campaigns have further invited the public anger and the effects of this unrest are now getting visible on the ground.

The fiasco of Nandigram Road Show-

A couple of days ago Didi held a road show at Nandigram. However, the public participation in it was the lowest. Normally when a chief minister holds a road show people stand alongside the road and shower flower petals, wave their hands but here the response was very cold. Both the road sides were completely deserted and whatever crowd was there all belonged to the BJP waving the BJP flags and shouting BJP supporting slogans. Such an odd situation greeted her there. The extreme climax was when she was going to meet one of her ‘karyakarta’ some BJP activists welcomed here with “Jai Shriram”. (See the video) and she had to go through this. The video shows the thin crowd accompanied here. All those activists who otherwise would have been elated with her candidature from Nandigram have deserted her and joined hands with Suvendu Adhikari and only Muslims are with her. That easily made the divide with Suvendu becoming a candidate of the Hindus and Didi of the Muslims.

Huge deployment of Central Forces-

During the 2016 elections only 50 platoons of Central forces were deployed in Bengal. This time there are over 800 platoons of the central security forces deployed in the state. 70% TMC candidates were elected ‘unopposed’ in the panchayat elections three years ago. Taking the lesson from them the election commission made such a massive deployment of the central security forces shattering the ‘terror’ model of the TMC.

Suvendu’s legal battle and arrest of Chhatradhar Mahto-

Sixty of Didi’s trusted frontline lieutenants are at present absconding due to legal cases by Suvendu Adhikari. This has come as a great shocker for her. In addition the NIA has arrested naxalite leader and her party leader Chhatradhar Mahto. This has dealt a blow to Didi’s ground prowess. Had he been free he would have for sure stopped the Suvendu supporting voters in Nandigram elections on the polling day.

All these happenings indicate to one outcome that Didi is facing a shocking and historical defeat at Nandigram this time. In 2011 when Mamta first came to power defeating the Left Front Government, the then chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattarchya was defeated in the election. Will the history repeat this time also?
