He said, "'Metro man' E Sreedharan built (a) bridge in five months without corruption. Not like the flyover which had to be brought down and was reflective of the CPM-UDF (mis)-rule. " “E Sreedharan will be BJP’s Chief Minister candidate in the upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections 2021,” Surendran said.

Earlier, Sreedharan had said that Thursday would be his last day in DMRC uniform. He said that he would file his nomination for the elections only after resigning from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Speaking to the media after completing the final round of inspections at the reconstructed Palarivattom flyover, Sreedharan said that he would continue to oversee the projects as an MLA or in any other post.

“Even if I come, I won’t be in this uniform. Certainly, I will have to oversee projects,” he said, adding, “Be it an MLA or any other post, when a work is underway, I will certainly have to oversee. I will give nomination only after resigning from DMRC.”

Sreedharan officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala in the presence of Union Minister RK Singh on February 25. Kerala is set to go to the polls on April 6, with the results to be announced on May 2. E Sreedharan - fondly known as 'Metro Man' has been credited for transforming public transport in India during his tenure as managing director of Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro between 1995 to 2012.
