Mumbai, Mar 4: Just four days to go for International Women's Day, a shameful incident took place in Maha Vikas Aghadi-bound state. In shocking incident girls from the Jalgaon hostel were forced to strip and dance by police personnel. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that the state government has formed a four-member high-level committee to probe the incident.
This comes after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA raised the incident in the Maharashtra Assembly on Wednesday. BJP MLA Shweta Mahale, from the Chikhali constituency, said that the women were allegedly made to strip and dance while being filmed. She said that a few police officials were also involved in this act which took place on March 1.
"This incident has brought shame to the state as the police are also involved in such acts. Those responsible for providing security to women are themselves turning into predators. There could be more such women who might have fallen prey. We demand strict action in this regard," Shweta Mahale said.
The investigation ordered by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government came after the incident was reported at the Ashadeep Women's Hostel in Jalgaon city. A local NGO from Jalgaon had raised a complaint to the district collector about the incident on Tuesday. It reportedly complained that policemen and some other people were allowed to enter the hostel premises on the pretext of an investigation and some girls were forced to strip and dance.

The Home Minister has said that a four-member committee has been formed and the officials have been asked to submit a report in the next two days. "It is a very unfortunate incident. Action will be taken as per rules after the report is submitted," Deshmukh added. He further said that "all information about the incident is being taken. The entire video recording and other documents are sought and statements are being recorded." Strict action will be taken as per rules after gathering all the information".
Before Deshmukh made the announcement in the state assembly, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar also slammed the Maharashtra government, suggesting it was not serious over the issue.
Roasting the MVA govt, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis also called it a serious matter. “Our expectation is that you take immediate action sensitively,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur said that anybody found guilty will not be spared. “I have not seen the video. But I assure you that nobody will be spared, strict action will be taken. The Home Minister has ordered a probe and I am personally looking into it too,” she said.
It should be noted that the hostel is run by the Women and Child Welfare Department. The Department of Women and Child Welfare provides shelter and food to the destitute, oppressed women and girls at the hostel in Ganesh Colony.
