The two leaders also exchanged views on ways to bring lasting peace to the war-ravaged country.

“Received a call from US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad @US4AfghanPeace. Discussed latest developments pertaining to peace talks. We will remain in touch,” the EAM tweeted.
It should be noted that the US and Taliban has inked a peace deal on 29 February following which US would withdraw its troops from Afghanistan, effectively culminating in an 18-year-old war with the Taliban in Afghanistan. India has been a key stakeholder in the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. India has been keenly monitoring this process since it has begun.

In November, Jaishankar and Khalilzad had held talks during the US envoy’s visit to India with regard to the historic peace negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government and related issues.
