Tributes to Rani Durgavati! Singorgarh conservation project launched

Bhopal, Mar 8: The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, laid down the foundation stone for conservation works of the historic Singorgarh Fort at the Singrampur village of Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, on Mar 7, 2021. President Ramnath Kovind also inaugurated the Jabalpur Circle of Archaeological Survey of India.

President Kovind addressed the State Level Tribal Conference at Singrampur village in Damoh which was organized by the Union Ministry of Culture and the Tribal Affairs Department of Madhya Pradesh. On the occasion, Kovind also paid his floral tributes at the statue of Rani Durgavati in Singrampur village. He also launched the booklet of Tribal Department and a portal for virtual classes for the tribal artists. On the occasion, President also awarded talented tribal students with the Shankar Shah and Rani Durgavati awards.
 
 
The fort is situated in Damoh district in the state of Madhya Pradesh and is a hill-fort of Garha Kingdom. The fort is spread over the hills of a forested area and is located at a distance of 45 km from Jabalpur city. It was a magnificent fort in historic times, where the Rajgond rulers of central India resided. The fort is currently in a ruined condition for which the conservation work has been launched. The fort also comprises of a pond at the hilltop that provides fresh water to drink. Under the rule of Rani Durgavati in the year 1564, the fort was attacked by the last war of the Garha Kingdom dynasty.
 
 
The fort is important for the record of tribal history of the country. The Gondwana Kingdom was a ruling kingdom in the Gondwana region of India. The region comprised of the core region of eastern part of Vidarbha (Maharashtra), some parts of Madhya Pradesh and parts of western Chhattisgarh. It also included some parts of western Odisha, northern Telangana and southern Uttar Pradesh.
