Thala Rajinikanth to be conferred with 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award

 New Delhi, April 01: The most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award was announced on Thursday morning and with that announcement Superstar Rajinikanth will be conferred with the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar made informed this during the press conference.

Rajinikant has been conferred for the contribution that he has made in the film industry as an actor, producer, and screenwriter. Rajinikanth, 70, is among Indian cinema's most iconic stars. He made his debut in the 1975 Tamil film Apoorva Ragangal and delivered superhit films such as Billu, Muthu, Baashha, Sivaji, and Enthiran. Rajinikanth also starred in several Bollywood hits such as Hum and Chaalbaaz. His last few film releases were Kaala and 2.0 in 2018, 2019's Petta and Darbar last year.
 
 
Rajinikanth was chosen by a jury that included singer Asha Bhonsle, Malayalam superstar Mohan Lal, veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai, well-known singer Shankar Mahadevan, and Bengali actor Biswajeet Chatterjee.
 
Right after the announcement Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate him and called him 'Thalaiva. “Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him,” PM Modi tweeted.
 
 
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be conferred on May 3, 2021, along with the distribution of the National Film Awards 2019.
