While launching the e-SANTA Goyal said that the platform will raise income, lifestyle, self-reliance, quality levels, traceability, and provide new options for aqua farmers.

He said that the platform will change the traditional way of carrying out business from a word of mouth basis to become more formalised & legally binding. Goyal further added that e-SANTA will act as an alternative marketing tool between farmers & buyers by eliminating middlemen.

The minister said that farmers were facing monopolies and exploitation, exporters were facing inconsistency and quality gaps in the products purchased, and traceability is a big issue in international trade. He said that the e-SANTA website will change the living standards of our fishermen, it will bring in substantive improvements in their lives. He also added that it will also enhance India’s reputation in global trade. The portal will act as a bridge between the fishermen and buyers, within the country and abroad.

It should be noted that e-SANTA will enable the farmers to get a better price and the exporters to directly purchase quality products from the farmers enhancing traceability, a key factor in international trade.

e-SANTA is a completely paperless and end-to-end electronic trade platform between farmers and exporters. The farmers have the freedom to list their products and quote their price while the exporters have the freedom to list their requirements and also to choose the products based on their requirements such as desired size, location, harvest dates, etc.

The use of modern tools and techniques can help in increasing shrimp production to 6-7 lakh tonnes from 40,000 tonnes. The portal will benefit 18,000 farmers who are currently contributing to the marine exports of the country.
