Army, Assam Rifles rescues two of three ONGC employees abducted by ULFA-I

Guwahati, April 24: In a major rescue operation, the Indian Army along with Assam Rifles have rescued two of the three ONGC employees, who were abducted allegedly by the suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leaders. Troops from both the Forces rescued the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) employees during an operation on Friday night in the general area of Nagaland's Mon district.

The rescued employees - Alakesh Saikia (Junior Engineering Assistant) and Mohini Mohan Gogoi (Junior Technician) - were abducted from the Sivasagar district of Assam. While another Junior Technician Ritul Saikia has not been found yet, however the operation is still underway.
 
One AK-47 rifle was also recovered during the operation conducted by the Army, according to the news agency. Three ONGC employees were kidnapped from a rig site at Lakwa field in Assam's Sivasagar district on Wednesday. "The abducted employees were taken by the miscreants in an operational vehicle belonging to ONGC. Later, the vehicle was found abandoned near the Nimonagarh jungles close to the Assam-Nagaland border," the ONGC had tweeted.

On Friday evening, the Assam Police said the ULFA-I was involved in the abduction. It added that police has arrested “14 linkmen and sympathisers who were helping the banned outfit directly or indirectly.”
 
 
In a statement, Assam Police said that it had received specific information that the kidnapping was done by the ULFA (I). It added that it was done under "the command of SS Maj Ganesh Lahon, Pruna Lahon and his accomplices namely, Aidyaman Asom, Moniram Borgohain and Pradip Gogoi, Akon."

“Our investigation has revealed the role of ULFA-I in the incident,” said Additional DGP (Law and Order) GP Singh, who was rushed to Sivasagar to oversee the operations. The statement added that police has arrested “14 linkmen and sympathisers who were helping the banned outfit directly or indirectly. The include one person who was suspected to be an overground worker of the organisation,” said Singh.
