Karnataka CM Yediyurappa gets relief as Supreme Court puts corruption case on hold

Bengaluru, April 05: In the major development, the Supreme court gave a major relief to the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and stayed the criminal proceedings against him inland de-notification case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde stayed the Karnataka High Court order which directed a trial court to proceed against the Karnataka Chief Minister in a corruption case of allegedly denotifying some land to benefit private parties.
 
While proceeding the Advocate KV Viswanathan who was representing Yediyurappa has requested to issue an interim order in the case. After hearing both sides in the matter, CJI stayed the criminal proceedings against the CM.
 
 
 
 
On January 27, the apex court had granted protection from arrest to Yediyurappa and Minister Murugesh Nirani in connection with a case, where they failed to grant 26 acres of land to private investor M Alam Pasha in 2011. The top court had then issued notice to Pasha on two separate petitions filed by Yediyurappa and Nirani. "Issue notice. There shall be a stay of arrest in the meantime", the court had said.
 
The case pertains to a private complaint filed against Yediyurappa under section 200 of CrPC, alleging that during his CM tenure of 2008-12, Yediyurappa illegally de-notified 20 acres of private land from land acquisition proceedings, to give undue favors to private parties, and caused loss to public exchequer by forfeiting service fee of Rs.2,64,00,000 and development fee of Rs.6.00 crores. He was accused of commission of offenses under sections 7, 10, 13, and 15 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
