Good news for sanitation workers! Haryana CM announces pay hike for state sanitation workers

New Delhi, Apr 5: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced an increase in the salaries of sanitation workers for both rural as well as urban areas in the state.

The Chief Minister made the announcement while he was addressing Safai Mitra Utthan Sammelan in Karnal on Apr 4. He said "Monthly salary of sanitation workers in rural areas to increase from Rs 12,500 to Rs 14,000 and for those in urban areas to increase from Rs 15,000 to Rs 16,000." He also announced, "If the salary is delayed then Rs 500 to be given with next month's salary as additional compensation."
 
 
 
 
According to the WHO, sanitation workers provide an essential public service around the world. ‘Sanitation work’ includes emptying toilets, pits and septic tanks, entering manholes and sewers to fix or unblock them, transporting faecal waste, working treatment plants, as well as cleaning public toilets or defecation around homes and businesses.
