PM Modi holds high-level meeting to review COVID-19, calls for five-fold strategy

Delhi, April 05: Amid the growing rate of COVID-19 cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for implementation of five-fold strategies of testing, tracing, treatment, COVID-appropriate behavior, and vaccination. He also reviewed the COVID-19 situation and vaccination exercise in the country.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister underlined the need to continue "Jan Bhagidari" and "Jan Andolan" for Covid-19 management. He highlighted the need to enforce COVID appropriate behavior in the coming days and ensure the availability of beds, testing facilities, and timely hospitalization. PM Modi further highlighted the need to ensure effective implementation of containment measures, besides the involvement of community volunteers in active case search and management of containment zones.
  
Prime Minister called attention to avoid mortality under all circumstances by ramping up healthcare infrastructure, availability of oxygen, ventilators besides required logistics, and ensuring that clinical management protocols are followed across all hospitals as well as for those in-home care.
 
 
 
He exhorted that all states need to take required stringent measures with comprehensive restrictions in places witnessing high surges to curb the spread. The Prime Minister called attention to avoid mortality under all circumstances by ramping up healthcare infrastructure, availability of oxygen, ventilators besides required logistics, and ensuring that clinical management protocols are followed across all hospitals as well as for those in-home care.
 
 
After reviewing the current situation in the country, PM also directed the Cental Health Team consisting of Public Health Specialists and clinicians will be sent to Maharashtra and as well as Punjab and Chhattisgarh. The team will help the state government to curd the COVID-19 in the state. According to the statement, the center is also organising a special campaign for COVID-appropriate behavior with emphasis on 100 percent mask usage, personal hygiene, and sanitation at public places and workplaces, and health facilities.
 
 
It was noted in the meeting that vaccine manufacturers are ramping up their production capacity and are also in discussion with other domestic and offshore companies to augment the same. It was highlighted that alarming rate of growth of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country with 10 states contributing to more than 91 percent of cases and deaths due to COVID.
 
According to the Health Ministry, Maharashtra has contributed 57 percent of total cases in the country in the last 14 days and 47 percent of deaths in the country during the same period. Punjab has contributed 4.5 percent of the total number of cases in the country in the last 14 days. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh has contributed 4.3 percent of total cases in the country over the last 14 days, its contribution in total death has exceeded 7 percent during the same period.
