After Tauktae, another cyclone to hit India in coming week

New Delhi, May 19: Just one day after ‘Extremely Severe Cyclone Tauktae' hit the Gujarat, India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave a warning about a second cyclone which is going to hit India’s east coast in the coming week. According to the IMD cyclonic storm ‘Yaas,’ is likely to make landfall in Sundarban areas between May 23 and May 25 and possibly move towards Bangladesh.
IMD said that a low-pressure system could take birth within the next 48 hours and it holds the potential to intensify into a cyclone. This system will develop close to the north Andaman Sea around May 22 and reach either Odisha or West Bengal by the evening of May 26.
IMD said, "Scattered to broken low and medium clouds with embedded intense to very intense convection layover southeast Bay of Bengal (bob), adjoining the equatorial Indian Ocean and Andaman sea. Scattered low and medium clouds with embedded moderate to intense convection lay over southwest Bay of Bengal.”
The Met department has warned of heavy rain along with the Andaman and Nicobar islands on May 22 and 23. Further, rainfall will commence over Odisha, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Assam from May 25.
