Anti Terrorism Day- Amb Vikram Misri administers pledge to all Indian embassy officials in China

New Delhi, May 21: In the wake of Anti-Terrorism Day, the Indian Embassy in China headed by Amb Vikram Misri today administered the #AntiTerrorismDay Pledge to all the Embassy officials. All the officials meanwhile were seen following the social distancing rules in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anti-Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 in India every year. The objective behind the observance of this day is to wean away from the youth from terrorism and the cult of violence by highlighting the suffering of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to the national interest.
 
 
It was on this day in the year 1991 that former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. This year commemorates Rajiv Gandhi’s 30th death anniversary as India observes Anti-Terrorism Day. It is proposed by MHA that the 'Anti-Terrorism Pledge" may be taken solemnly by the Officials in their rooms/offices itself, keeping in view the safety of participants and organisers and to avoid public gatherings.
 
 
 
The official announcement of National Anti Terrorism Day was made after the assassination of India's seventh Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991. He was killed in Tamil Nadu in a campaign by a terrorist. Then, under the V.P. Singh government, the center has decided to observe 21st May as Anti Terrorism Day. On this day Anti Terrorism pledge is taken in all the government offices, public sector undertakings, and other public institutions, etc.
 
 
Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations poses a direct threat to the security of the citizens of countries, and to international stability and prosperity. It is a persistent global threat that knows no border, nationality, or religion and is a challenge that the international community must tackle together.
