11.5 lakh vaccine doses wasted in Rajasthan! Union Minister attacks 'Who will take responsibility for this'

Jaipur, May 22: Around 11.5 lakh covid-19 vaccine doses have been wasted till 21 May since the first shot began which was given on January 16 in Gehlot-led Rajasthan administration.

Union Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday attacked the Rajasthan government over the wastage of Covid vaccines in the desert state, asking who will take responsibility for the alleged wastage of 11.5 lakh vaccines doses in the state.
 
 
According to local reports, the district of Churu in Rajasthan is among the top in the list for vaccine wastage with around 40 percent. Following it is the district of Hanumangarh with a figure of around 24.6 percent vaccine wastage.
 
In the state capital city, the wastage figure stood around 4.67 percent for Jaipur 1 & for Jaipur 2 the figure is 1.31 percent. On the other hand, the district of Jaisalmer reported the least vaccine wastage in the state with -10.24 percent.
 
 
The report also stated the figurescome after the state health department issued a direction to all chief medical health officers across the state to ensure the covid vaccine should not be wasted.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged state officials to ensure minimal wastage of Covid-19 vaccines as the country reels under a shortage of doses.

"There is an issue of vaccine wastage. Wasting even a single dose means not being able to give a shield to a life.When vaccines are delivered to you all, we must ensure there is no wastage. You all must monitor this in both urban and rural areas. Stopping vaccine wastage is critical and you all must ensure that we do not have any (wastage)," PM Modi said.
