MP Vaiko writes to I&B ministry, seeks ban on The Family Man 2 series

Chennai, May 24: It seems like the brawl over the much-awaited web series The Family Man 2 has risen after Rajya Sabha member and MDMK leader Vaiko wrote a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and sought a ban on the show, alleging it shows Tamilians in a negative light.

In his letter to I&B minister Vaiko wrote that the trailer of The Family Man 2 that was recently released depicts Tamilians as terrorists and ISI agents having links with Pakistan.
 
He also alleged that the series has wrongly portrayed the image of the Tamil people, it has shown Tamilians in a negative light. He claimed that the show depicted “Tamilians as terrorists and ISI Agents and having link with Pakistan.” He added, that the sacrifices made by Tamil Eelam warriors were also wrongly shown as a terrorist act.
 
He wrote that the visuals had ‘hurt the sentiments of Tamil people and Tamil culture and were 'offensive against Tamil community.' “The people of Tamil Nadu are raising serious objection over such activities and are protesting against the serial," he wrote in his letter.

He has also asked Minister to stop the release of the show or threatened consequences for the government by the people of TN. He urged the Ministry to ‘take immediate action to stop the release of The Family Man 2. Otherwise, the people of Tamil Nadu will react very seriously and the Government has to face serious consequences,” his letter read.
Apart from the Vaiko, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) Founder Seeman has also demanded ban on Amazon Prime web series.
 
The Family Man 2 has been created and directed by Raj & DK. Season 2 stars Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni, and Priyamani. The Family Man 2 trailer released on May 19 and within 24 hours, the trailer garnered 15 million views. The trailer shows actress Samantha Akkineni shown as Raji who is the soldier of the Liberation Tiger for Tamil Eelam (LTTE) the organisation involved in the Sri Lankan civil war. The series hits Amazon Prime on June 4.
 
It should be noted that The Family Man 2 has facing hatred and anger over social media. Some netizens termed the show as ‘anti-Tamils’ for showcasing Tamilians as ‘terrorists.’
