IPS Subodh Kumar takes charge as CBI director

New Delhi, May 26: In the major development, IPS and Former Maharashtra DGP Subodh Kumar Jaiswal took charge as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), a day after the government appointed him as CBI director. He has been appointed as Director for a period of 2 years.

The personnel ministry yesterday issued a release regarding this. According to the ministry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led's three-member selection committee had on Monday shortlisted his name for the post. Apart from PM Modi the committee also consists of the Chief Justice of India and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has based on the panel recommended by the Committee, approved the appointment of Shri Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS (MH: 1985) as Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the office or until further orders whichever is earlier," the ACC order stated.
 
About Jaiswal:-
 
Subodh Jaiswal is a 1985-batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer. Jaiswal was Mumbai Police Commissioner and Maharashtra DGP before central deputation.
 
He has also worked with the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the past. He was also a part of the investigation in regards to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the 2006 serial blasts in the Maharashtra capital.
 Jaiswal was also associated with the probes into the Elgar Parishad and Bhima Koregaon violence cases. He also served as the Additional Police Commissioner in Pune.
 
He also served in the Research and Analysis Wing (RA&W) for nine years, India's external intelligence agency. Subodh Jaiswal was awarded the President's Police Medal for his distinguished service in 2009.
