NDA snatches Congress only govt in South; wins Puducherry with the majority

New Delhi, May 03: Defeating the UPA government in the Puducherry Assembly election, BJP led NDA National Democratic Alliance (NDA) snatched the congress-only govt in the south, and forms its second government in the South with a majority. NDA alliance, which comprises All India NR Congress, BJP, and AIADMK won 16 seats out of 30 seats and come to power in the Puducherry Assembly Elections.

As per Election Commission data, the UPA govt including the Secular Democratic Alliance (SDA) on the other hand - comprising of Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Communist Party of India (CPI) won only 14 seats.

From the 16 seats, BJP won 6 seats and AINRC won the 10 seats. Meanwhile, Congress conceded defeat as it managed to win just 2 seats out of the 14 it contested.
 
 
Former Chief Minister and AINRC chief N Rangaswamy won the Thattanchavady constituency by a margin of over 5456 votes over his CPI rival K Sethu alias Sethu Selvam. He contested on two seats he lost in Yanam. He is likely to be the next CM of Puducherry in the NDA government.Former congress lead who joined BJP in January won Mannadipet by a margin of 2750 votes over DMK rival A Krishnan.
 
 
 
 
Apart from it, BJP's A John Kumar was declared the victor from Kamaraj Nagar. He defeated Congress rival and former Industries Minister MOHF Shah Jahan. Kumar was elected from the same seat in the by-election held in November 2019 on a Congress ticket. He has now retained the segment but on a BJP ticket.
 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah among others thanked the people of Puducherry after the NRC, BJP, and AIADMK alliance headed for a majority in the assembly elections.
 
 
 
The Congress-led government in the Union Territory had collapsed just before the elections. A President's Rule was imposed in Puducherry after the Congress-led government lost the vote of confidence in the Assembly.
