New Delhi, June 15: Amid Twitter's ongoing tussle with the central government, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information & Technology summoned the Jack Dorsey-owned social media site and asked Twitter to appear before them in the Parliament Complex on June 18. Parliamentary Committee has asked social networking companies to put forth a presentation regarding the prevention of misuse of online news and social media.

"To hear the views of representatives of Twitter followed by evidence of representatives Electronics Technology 'Safeguarding citizens' rights and prevention of misuse of social/online news media platforms including special emphasis on women security in the digital space'," Parliamentary Panel agenda read.

This summon follows the central government's final notice to Twitter regarding compliance with the new IT rules that were notified back in February this year.

The parliamentary committee has summoned Twitter multiple times in the past on many issues. Earlier in January, the social media giant was summoned by the Parliamentary Committee in connection with the bi-partisan scrutiny into the misuse of social media with regards to privacy laws and personal data protection.
