According to the press release, Health Minister said that private hospitals can charge up to ₹150 on service charges and the state governments will monitor the prices being charged. The ministry has further requested states and union territories to regularly monitor the prices being charged by the private CVCs from the citizens and asked them to take strict action against the private vaccination centers for charging above the government ceiling.

“The private hospitals may charge up to a maximum of ₹150 per dose as service charges. State governments may monitor the price being so charged,” the ministry said. The CoWIN system would also ensure that the prices declared by various private vaccination centres do not exceed the maximum price.

The maximum amount for each vaccine has been worked out based on the price declared by their manufacturers, the health ministry said.

Besides, the government yesterday informed that Health Ministry has placed fresh orders for 25 crores more doses of Covishield and 19 crore doses of Covaxin COVID-19 vaccines.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the central government will provide free coronavirus vaccines to states and union territories for inoculation of all above 18 years of age from June 21. He further added that the Centre will account for the procurement of 75% of COVID-19 vaccines from the manufacturers and subsequently provide these free to the States for inoculation.
