NCP chief Sharad Pawar meets PM Modi for nearly an hour

New Delhi, July 17: Amid Sena-Congress war of words, NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to discuss 'various issues of national interest.' Pawar’s office said that the meeting lasted for 57 minutes.

The meeting took place amid reports over fissures in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government in Maharashtra.
 
The meeting between Sharad Pawar and PM Modi also comes two days before the monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin on July 19. The government has listed 17 new bills for introduction in the session, including three to replace ordinances issued recently.
 
 
Earlier a day, Pawar's meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with ex-Defence Minister AK Antony. The two former defense ministers were briefed by CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat & Army Chief Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane on the ongoing conflict over the Sino-Indian border dispute, clarifying the two ministers' doubts.
 
On Friday, the newly-appointed leader of Rajya Sabha and Union minister Piyush Goyal held consultations with NCP chief Sharad Pawar along with former prime minister Manmohan Singh and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma ahead of the monsoon session, government officials said.
