Chandigarh, July 19: With several speculations going around about the Punjab Congress president, the Congress finally decided to put a full-stop as Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi replaced Sunil Jakhar with Navjot Singh Sidhu to make him the new Punjab Congress Chief.

"Hon'ble Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has appointed Shri Navjot Singh Sidhu as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect. The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC President, Shri Sunil Jakhar," the Congress tweeted.
 
 
This development came to fill the cracks that took place among the Punjab Congress leaders in the past few months. It should be noted that the Assembly elections. A former BJP leader, Sidhu joined the Congress ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections. Given this backing, it was always believed that Sidhu would get a significant role but Amarinder had other plans. Incidentally, one of the people seen as instrumental in bringing Sidhu to the Congress was political strategist Prashant Kishor, who is running Amarinder’s campaign now.

When Sidhu resigned, there has been open war between both of them. Since April, Sidhu has been attacking the CM on Twitter. Even, the Congress had set up a committee to look into the state unit problems. This resulted into Amarinder heading to Delhi twice to plead his case.
