Bengaluru, July 28: Taking the charge of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai took oath on Wednesday as the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka, succeeding BS Yediyurappa for the post.
 
In the ceremony at the Glass House of the Karnataka Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy.

Soon after the ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "he brings with him rich legislative and administrative experience." "I am confident he will build on the exceptional work done by our Government in the state," the PM tweeted.
 
 
 
 
Yesterday, the Karnataka BJP legislature party appointed Basavaraj Bommai as a 23rd CM of the southern state’s Karnataka.  According to the information,  Bommai's name was proposed by caretaker chief minister BS Yediyurappa in the BJP legislative party meeting and seconded by KS Eshwarappa, R Ashok, Govind Kajol, and the other MLAs.
 
 
 
 
After being elected as the chief minister, Bommai said, “It is a big responsibility. I will try to work for the welfare of the poor. This will be the rule of people-friendly and pro-poor people".
 
All about Basavaraj Bommai:- 
 
  • Born on January 28, 1960, Bommai belongs to the Sadara Lingayat caste, same as his predecessor Yediyurappa. 

  • Bommai is a mechanical engineering graduate.He is the son of the 11th chief minister of Karnataka, SR Bommai.

  • He started his political career with the Janata Dal (Secular). He was first elected a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council in 1998 and again in 2004 from Dharwad. In 2008, he joined BJP.

  • He is MLA from Shiggaon in central Karnataka's Haveri district. He was the home, law, and parliamentary affairs minister in the BS cabinet.

  • Bommai is known to be a close aide of Yediyurappa and his follower. He has also known as the Yediyurappa’s main troubleshooter. He had handled Bengaluru riots within an hour.

  • He is also widely appreciated for his knowledge regarding irrigation projects in the state.
