After Calcutta HC's order, CBI forms 4 special teams to probe Bengal post-poll violence

New Delhi, August 20 : After the verdict of the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation, wasting no time, constituted 4 Special Investigation Units on Thursday to probe the cases of the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

The CBI special teams will operate from New Delhi and will probe into rape and assault cases as well. According to the source, 25 officers have been divided into four teams which will be headed by senior officers of the rank of Joint Directors. Each team will include a Deputy Inspector General, a Senior Superintendent of Police, and three Superintendent Police.
 
 
Yesterday, Calcutta HC gave a big blow to the Mamata-led government. A 5-judge bench ordered a probe by the CBI in all the alleged rape, murder, and rioting cases that had taken place in West Bengal after the state assembly elections.
 
 
For other cases, the court ordered a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate. The SIT will comprise IPS officers Suman Bala Sahoo, Director General (Telecommunications), Soumen Mitra, Kolkata Police Commissioner, and Ranveer Kumar. The High Court asked the CBI and STI to file a report in the next six weeks.
