PR Sreejesh, the senior-most member of the team, claimed good saves for the team and was also an inspiration for the other gamers. It should be noted that PR Sreejesh saved the 13th penalty during the game when Germany was close to making the country lose to win its first bronze.

The Kerala government’s Handloom Department announced the dhoti and shirt worth approximately Rs 1,000 as a token of appreciation for PR Sreejesh for winning a bronze medal in the Olympics.

It was shameful, as when all other states are announcing whopping rewards for their players to encourage them and other players, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has however not mentioned any cash prize like Punjab CM Amarinder Singh or Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

It should be noted that the Punjab, Haryana, and North-Eastern states have announced jobs and funds for their state athletes. The Minister of Sports & Youth Services in Punjab, Rana Gurmit S Sodhi on Thursday announced a cash award of Rs 1 crore each for players from the state. The other state governments have not only announced prizes for their medal-winning players but also for the women's team who has reached a historic high position in world Hockey even if they didn't win a medal.

When the Kerala govt didn't acknowledge the efforts of the PR Sreejesh, the UAE-based Indian entrepreneur Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for the goalkeeper P R Sreejesh, who stood rock solid in front of the goalpost and ensured a bronze medal for India in Tokyo Olympics.

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team received the historic bronze medal within the Field Hockey occasion of the Tokyo Olympics after defeating Germany 5-4 within the Bronze medal play-off. The Indian males’ hockey workforce secured their first Olympics medal in 41 years.
