Militant shoot down J&K Police Officer in Srinagar, incident caught on camera

The incident took place at around 1.35 pm at a marketplace in the Khanyar area of downtown Srinagar.

New Delhi, September 13: In yet another heinous attack, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists shot dead a Probationer Sub Inspector Meer Arshad at the point-blank range in the Khanyaar area of Srinagar city on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 1.35 pm at a marketplace in the Khanyar area of downtown Srinagar. Following the incident Arshad was rushed to the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, however he succumbed to the injuries.
 
 
The whole incident was captured on a CCTV camera in which the militant can be seen firing at the cop at least twice from behind. The security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a massive manhunt to nab the assailants.
 
 
 
DGP Dilbagh Singh said, “He was deputed to hospital for a check-up of an accused person. When he was coming out of the hospital, he was shot at. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, he succumbed to injuries. It is a very tragic loss for us, a tragic loss for the family.”
 
 
“The perpetrators of crime have been identified and they would be brought to justice,” he said.
The attack on Arshad and his resultant demise have also evoked condemnation from the mainstream political parties. Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha also condemned the act. He strongly condemns the brutal killing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Officer.
 
 
 
"This is a handiwork of enemies of humanity and peace. His supreme sacrifice won't go in vain, terrorists will be punished for the act. Heartfelt condolences to the martyr's family" tweeted Sinha.
 
 
 
Later in the day, a wreath-laying ceremony for the police personnel was held at District Police Lines Srinagar. DGP Dilbag Singh led senior officers of police, paramilitary forces, Civil, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) officers, and relatives paid floral tributes to SI Arshid Ahmad Mir.
