US special envoy John Kerry lauds PM Modi for ambitious climate targets

Kerry said that PM Modi has set very ambitious targets in India and "target of 450 GW by 2030, of renewable energy, is one of the most powerful goals in world."

New Delhi, September 13: US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, who is on his visit to India, has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi  for setting ambitious climate targets

While appreciating Modi, Kerry said that PM Modi has set very ambitious targets in India and "target of 450 GW by 2030, of renewable energy, is one of the most powerful goals in world."

He goes further and congratulates India for achieving the 100 GW feat. "You have already reached about 100 GW. I congratulate India on a remarkable milestone. We are absolutely confident that the 450 gigawatts as a goal can and will be reached. We look forward to partnering with India," Kerry added.
 
 
Moreover, he said that India has demonstrated that economic development and clean energy can go hand-in-hand. He further hopes that it gets its proper due at the Conference of Parties (CoP-26) Summit in Glasgow. The special representative is on a visit to India.

"India is a world leader in demonstrating economic development and clean energy isn't a choice. You can do them both at the same time. I look forward to seeing this ambition hopefully given its proper due credit at CoP in Glasgow," he said.

Earlier today, Kerry met Union Power Minister RK Singh here in New Delhi, as part of his India trip to address the climate crisis. During this India and the U.S. on Monday launched the Climate Action and Finance Mobilisation Dialogue (CAFMD) under the India-U.S. Climate and Clean Energy Agenda 2030 Partnership. Kerry is on an official visit to India from September 12-14.
