Police bust espionage racket! Arrests man for helping Pakistani spy to ‘honey trap’ defense personnel

Police have filed an FIR for sedition and other offenses against the arrested man.

Ludhiana, September 14: Busting a major espionage racket, Ludhiyana's investigation team has arrested one person named Jaswinder Singh, for helping a Pakistani Spy to honey trap Indian Army personnel. Police have filed an FIR for sedition and other offenses against the arrested man.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner gave the information about the espionage racket. Jaswinder has been accused of providing access of Indian defense personnel to the spy. The racket came to light after Ludhiana police received secret inputs from Air Force Intelligence Unit, Jodhpur.
 
 
According to the information, the arrested man from village Ucchi Daud (near Maloud) of Ludhiana district, was in touch with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative, who introduced herself as Jasleen Brar from Bathinda and was using WhatsApp number activated using OTP provided by Jaswinder Singh to honey trap Army Personnel.
 
 
 
“This woman operative was using a WhatsApp number activated through the OTP provided by the arrested accused to honey trap Indian Army personnel. WhatsApp chats have confirmed that the woman managed to contact at least seven defence personnel. Further analysis of WhatsApp chats is being done,” said Ludhiana police in a statement.
 
 
 
"Whatsapp chats have confirmed contact between seven Defence personnel and the PIO. PIO, being a member of these groups, is monitoring these chats and may cultivate/honey trap new personnel through social engineering. Further analysis of Whatsapp chats being done," it added.
 
The Commissioner further informed that arrested accused Jaswinder Singh had also received Rs 10,000 from PIO in his bank account. "On directions of PIO, he further transferred this amount to another bank account which belongs to Pune, Maharashtra," the statement said.
 
 
 
The Police Commissioner informed several audio messages suggesting that the PIO was tasking the accused to go to Jaipur bus stand and receive a CD, which is being verified. He confirmed that Jaswinder Singh has provided three numbers to the PIO for Whatsapp usage. "Further investigation in this matter is underway," he added.
