Under-construction flyover collapses in Mumbai's BKC, 14 injured

Mumbai, September 17: At least 14 workers have been injured after a girder of an under-construction flyover at the MTNL junction in Bandra Kurla Complex / BKC collapsed early on Friday, said the civic officials. This mishap happened around 4.41 am, they added.

The main control room of Mumbai Police, received a call about the said incident at 6:21 am. The police, fire brigade personnel, and MMRDA team rushed to the spot right away.
 
 
 
The injured workers have been taken to the Vile Parle-based V N Desai Hospital. The doctors here said that the condition of all the workers was stable, the officials said.

The injured workers have been identified as Anil Singh (28), Arvind Singh (29), Azar Ali (26), Mustaf Ali (28), Riyazuddin (23,) Motlab Ali (28), Riyazu Ali (21), Shravan (49), Atish Ali (22), Rlis Ali (22), Aziz-Ul-Huq (29), Parvez (22), Akbar Ali (25) and Shrimand (25).
 
The workers, (who are in the age group of 21-49 years), were doing some work on the girder, when it fell down.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner went to the spot and assured that the inquiry will be conducted; necessary action will be taken.
 
SVR Srinivas, the Metropolitan Commissioner, said, “It’s a very unfortunate incident and the bearing supporting the girder might have slipped leading to the accident. An investigation will be conducted and action will be taken against those responsible. All the 14 labourers, who were taken to the hospital, are safe and 13 have already been discharged after giving first aid.”
