Army helicopter crash lands in Udhampur, two pilots succumb to injuries

Udhampur, September 22: In a very tragic news, two pilots succumbed to their injuries after an Army helicopter Cheetah crash-landed near Shiv Garh Dhar area of Patnitop in Udhampur district of Jammu division.

The tragic incident took place around at 10.30 am to 10.45 am when the chopper was caught in bad weather. There was a thick fog over Patnitop when the incident occurred.

The pilots, who were critically injured after the crash, had been rescued by locals and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

"Today, during a training sortie in Patnitop area, Indian Army's Cheetah helicopter crash-landed in ShivGarh Dhar area in the district," a Jammu-based defense spokesman said. The deceased officers have been identified as Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput. Major Rohit Kumar hailed from Noida West, while Major Anuj Rajput was a resident of Panchkula district.
 


Army Commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen Y K Joshi paid rich tributes to the slain officers. "Army Commander, Northern Command, and all other ranks salute the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 21 September 2021 at Patnitop and offer deepest condolences to their families," the Army's Northern Command said in a tweet.
 

Lieutenant Governor, Jammu, and Kashmir Manoj Sinha offered his condolences to families of the deceased and said that he salutes the courage and sacrifice of braveheart army officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty at Patnitop Udhampur. My thoughts and prayers are with their families in this hour of grief.
 

Last month, two pilots died after an Army helicopter crashed into Ranjit Sagar dam. The body of one of the pilots is still missing.
