Mumbai, September 23: Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), on Thursday, said that the team has seized drugs worth Rs. 150 crores and have arrested over 300 peddlers over the past year.

Mumbai NCB zonal director, Sameer Wankhede, said, "In the last one year, we have seized drugs worth Rs. 150 crores and arrested more than 300 peddlers including 34 Nigerian nationals. The team has taken strict action against all the drug peddlers."

He also added, "Many types of drugs including 30 kg of charas, 12 kg of heroin, 2 kg of cocaine, 350 kg of ganja, 25 kg of mephedrone were confiscated in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and other areas of Maharashtra."

Moreover, he informed that close to 114 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances / NDPS Act, 1985 in the last one year.
 
 
“Now, we have started attaching properties of those caught dealing in drugs in commercial quantities. Till now, we have attached properties worth over Rs. 12 crore of various drug-peddlers and this will continue," he said. The items being seized are cash, jewellery earned from the sale of drugs.

Wankhede also said there was a delusion in people's minds that the person dealing drugs was the only culprit. He added, "It is not correct. Those who are consuming drugs are also liable for action and will be booked under provisions of the NDPS Act."

It should be noted that Sameer Wankhede has been conferred with the 'Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation' for 2021 for his high professional standards of investigation of crime.

Last week, the Directorate of Revenue and Intelligence / DRI recovered 3,000 kgs of Afghan heroin worth approximately ₹21,000 crores in the international market. It was discovered from 2 containers at Mundra port in Gujarat.

2 people were arrested and the role of some Afghan nationals is under investigation.
