Washington DC, September 24: Strengthening the bilateral ties between two countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on his 3-day visit to the United States met the US vice president Kamala Harris and exchanged views on recent global developments.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on recent global developments, including in Afghanistan, and reaffirmed their commitment towards a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
 
The two leaders discussed the COVID-19 situation in their respective countries, including ongoing efforts to contain the pandemic through expedited vaccination efforts, and ensuring supply of critical medicines, therapeutics and healthcare equipment.
 
Modi pointed out that India and the United States have similar values and geopolitical interests, and called the two countries "natural partners". PM Modi also asserted that coordination and cooperation between both nations were also increasing.
 
During the press, briefing US Vice President Kamala Harris said India is a very important partner to the US. " India is a very important partner to the US. We had COVID-19, the kind of crisis and importance of our shared belief in a free and open Indo-Pacific region. On COVID-19, our nations have worked together. Early in the pandemic, India was a vital source of vaccines for other countries," Harris said.
 
Harris acknowledge Pakistan's role in terrorism
 
In their maiden meeting, Kamala acknowledged Pakistan's nefarious role in backing terror groups and also agreed with the fact that India has been a victim of cross-border terrorism. She further asked Islamabad to take strict action so that they don't impact the United States and Indian security.
 
 
 
On terrorism, US VP Kamala Harris suo motu referred to Pakistan's role in that regard. She said that terror groups were working there. She asked Pakistan to take action so that these groups don't impact US security and of India," said Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
 
Harris lauds India's COVID vaccination drive
 
Harris also welcomed the Modi govt's announcement that it will soon be able to resume exports of COVID-19 vaccines US Vice President highlighted the 'noticeable, ever-deepening ties' between India and the USA. Harris recounted India's contribution towards the production of COVID-19 vaccines and talked about the US support to India in its need during the grappling second wave.
 
Modi also thanked Harris profusely for extending support to India “like a family, with a sense of kinship. PM Modi praised Harris as a "source of inspiration" and said her election as Vice President of the USA has been an important and historic event." He then went on to extend Harris an invitation to visit India, to which Harris nodded.
 
PM Modi also expressed confidence in India-US ties reaching a new height under the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
