Gulab Cyclone: IMD issues yellow alert in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh & West Bengal

New Delhi, September 25: Issuing the warning to the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the low deep depression that has formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Sunday evening.
The IMD took to Twitter to inform everyone about this alert. “A cyclone alert has been issued for north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts Yellow Message,” the IMD tweet added.
The cyclonic storm, which has been named Cyclone Gulab, is expected to cross Odisha and Andhra Pradesh with a wind speed of 70 to 80 kmph, gusting up to 90 kmph on the evening of September 26. The cyclone is likely to move initially west-north-westwards during the next 24 hours and west-south-westwards.
The cyclonic formation is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall at several places on September 25. Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated pockets over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and coastal Anda Pradesh. The Met Department has issued a yellow alert for both locations.
On September 26, it will bring light to moderate rainfall in most places with heavy to very heavy showers at some places and extremely heavy rains at isolated pockets of south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh. Isolated pockets of Telangana may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The Coast Guard has alerted the fishermen in the area by broadcasting weather warnings against the low-pressure area. They have been advised not to venture into the deep sea from September 25 onwards till further notice.

The IMD also predicted localised flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas due to torrential rain over coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 26 and Odisha and Chhattisgarh over the next two days.
Moreover, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha, has asked all district collectors to remain alert in view of the weather forecast. This is the second depression of the season and also the second in September. No depressions were formed between June and August.
