Delhi HC grants bail to 5 people accused of murdering head constable Ratan Lal during anti-CAA riots

Ratan Lal was lynched mercilessly by a Muslim mob during the riots.

New Delhi, Sept 3: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to five accused in connection with murder of Head Constable Ratan Lal and causing head injuries to a DCP during the anti-CAA riots in the national capital last year.

The high court gave the order on 5 of the 11 pleas filed in the case. The order on pleas filed by 6 other accused will be pronounced sometime next week.

The order reserved by Justice Subramanium Prasad was passed after hearing detailed arguments by ASG SV Raju and Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad appearing for prosecution. Those granted bails include the accused namely Mohd. Arif, Shadab Ahmad, Furkan, Suvaleen, and Tabassum.
 
 
Justice Subramoniam Prasad, while passing the order, said, "the court is of the opinion that the Petitioners cannot be made to languish behind bars for a longer period of time and that the veracity of the allegations levelled against them can be tested during trial."

Delhi Police had last year filed a charge sheet in connection with the killing of head constable Ratan Lal during the violence that swept northeast Delhi in February that year. Ratan Lal was lynched mercilessly by a Muslim mob during the riots. The police, in its charge sheet, had stated that the murder of Ratan Lal was a part of a deeper conspiracy to gin up communal riots across the national capital.
