Mumbai, September 03: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed officials on Thursday to prepare a plan providing over 14 million tap connections in rural areas of Maharashtra by 2024.
There are a total of 14,236,000 tap connections to be installed as part of Jal Jeevan Mission of the central government, Maharashtra has completed 65% of it. The tap connections that still remain to be installed are 4.9 million.
Thackeray chaired a review meeting on the Jal Jeevan Mission, said the state won’t let funds and required manpower fall short for the programme. He said, “The objective under Jal Jeevan Mission is to provide over 14.23 million tap connections in the rural areas of the state by the year 2024. Though this goal is big, this work is virtuous and we have to do it. To achieve this goal of connecting pipes by 2024, a time bound programme should be drawn up and implemented by all agencies on war-footing.”
The state plans to provide 2.75 million tap connections by 2022. The cost is expected to be ₹12,950 crore.
