KVIC Rehabilitates Covid-Affected Women with Self-Employment in Goa

New Delhi, September 07: In a unique initiative by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), they have made a pathway for sustainable self-employment for 9 women in Goa experiencing acute distress due to loss of their loved ones in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amidst grief, despair and livelihood crisis, the KVIC provided these women, (who lost bread-winners of their families), with financial aid to set up their own manufacturing units under its flagship scheme Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP). For the first time in India, a government agency is creating livelihood support for vulnerable people which the pandemic affected.
KVIC Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena, distributed cheques of Rs. 1.48 crore to these 9 women. They will now soon start their manufacturing units namely garment stitching, automotive repair, bakery / cake shops, beauty parlour, herbal and ayurvedic medicines and cashew processing units. Each of these beneficiaries have been provided loans up to Rs. 25 lakhs by the Central Bank of India, (under PMEGP Scheme). Each of these units will create employments for at least 8 people.

KVIC Chairman said, during the pandemic, KVIC gave a big thrust to local manufacturing and self-employment to sustain those families in distress. A lot of youths, women and distressed people from weaker sections of society were prompted to do self-employment under PMEGP.
