Belgavi, September 07: Karnataka's month-old Basavraj Bommai-led-Bharatiya Janata party government got a clear majority in Belagavi and emerged as the single largest party in Hubballi-Dharwad, however, it finished a close second in Kalaburagi.

The elections took place on September 3 and, the results were announced on Monday.
 
According to the Karnataka state election commission officials, the state ruling party secured control over the Belagavi city corporation by winning 35 of the 58 wards in Belagavi. On the other hand, the independent candidates got 12 seats, pushing Congress to the third position with 10 seats. The AIMIM could manage its foot-hold in only one seat. It should be noted that it is the first time that lotus has bloomed in the Belgavi after almost two decades.
 
 
In Kalaburagi, the Congress won 27 out of 55 wards to emerge as the single-largest party while the BJP got 23 seats to retain its second position, followed by four seats by JDS and one by an independent candidate.
 
 
 
Meanwhile, in Hubballi-Dharwad, of the 82 wards that went to the polls, the BJP bagged 39 seats and Congress 33 while the independent candidates, AIMIM and JDS secured six, three, and one seat, respectively.
 
After the result, Bommai said, "This was almost like a sample test after one month of my taking charge of the office. Out of the three, we have got a clear majority in two municipal corporations and in the third also we are in the close race but we are going to make a majority there also."
