The theme for this year’s parade is ’75 years of Independence’. The tableaux are selected through a five-phased test.

It should be noted that the state earlier submitted a proposal for the tableau of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru and Jatayu Park monument the ministry insisted to change it to Adi Shankara. However, Kerala was not ready to accept the demands of the ministry and thus, the submission was rejected.

Kerala was ousted from the parade in the years 2019 and 2020 as well.  In 2020, Kerala had proposed a Republic Day tableau featuring the state’s art and architecture, including the traditional art forms of Theyyam and Kalamandala. The Centre, however, rejected the proposal.

In 2021, the Centre had approved a tableau by the Kerala government that showcased the state’s traditional knowledge of coir-making. The artwork had depicted the state’s water bodies and coconut plantations.
