Indian Army inks first deal with pvt sector aimed at 'Atmanirbhar Defence' sector

New Delhi, Jan 19: In a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in the defence sector, the Indian Army signed its first contract worth Rs 96 crore with Anadron Systems Pvt Ltd under Make-II for Maneuverable Expendable Aerial Target.

  

 

"A significant step towards AtmanirbharDefence The first success story of Make-II Projects Indian Army has signed the first contract today under Make-II for Maneuverable Expendable Aerial Target with M/s Anadron Systems Pvt Ltd worth Rs96 Cr, for Army Air Defence and Indian Air Force," Defence Production India tweeted from its official account.

 

 

The Modi government has been introducing several initiatives in defence sector that can fulfill the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat as well as Make in India. As reported earlier, the Defence Ministry had decided to withdraw tenders related to the import of short-range surface-to-air missiles, and 14 helicopters. The Centre started reviewing the import deals that fall under the 'Buy Global' category, which are fully acquired from foreign vendors.

 

 

On the other hand, Philippines had last week accepted India's proposal to supply the BrahMos anti-ship missile system for its navy. It has accepted Indian BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd's proposal worth USD 374.9 million to supply a Shore-based Anti-Ship Missile System Acquisition Project. This is a big boost to PM Narendra Modi's initiative to export India's indigenous defense materials.

 

 

The initiative came after PM Modi took a review meeting with the Defence Ministry officials, including the then Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, where it was felt that strong measures would have to be taken to ensure that the country moves firmly towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.

 

The Prime Minister has been personally reviewing the progress of Make in India initiative in the defence sector and has from time to time asked officials in both services and the Defence Ministry to ensure that more steps are taken to promote Make in India in the defence sector.
