Mumbai, January 26: For the 2nd year in a consecutive row, none of the Bollywood actors have recieved the Padma awards. But from the people working in the industry, singer Sonu Nigam has been conferred with a Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award in India.
The Padma awards were announced last night, in a statement issued by Union Home Ministry. A total of 107 eminent personalities were honored with the Padma Shri, including Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra.
Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in 3 categories - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines / fields of activities like art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
India's first Chief of Defence Staff, who died in the chopper crash, has been honoured posthumously with Padma Vibhushan - the country's second-highest civilian award.
